These techniques are simpler, and have less potentially dangerous side effects than drugs and therapies that might be prescribed by doctors who only use Western medicine.
Medical insurance company, Aetna, says that acupuncture can be medically necessary for a wide range of medical issues such as:

- Nausea from pregnancy
- Joint pain
